Frequently Asked Questions

IBCLC, or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, helps with all stages of the feeding journey and is the highest credential one can earn in the breastfeeding field.  At Milk and Cookies Lactation, LLC, we are both registered nurses turned IBCLCs due to our passion for educating families and assisting them with their goals.  We can help from prenatal care to starting your breastfeeding journey to introducing solids to weaning.  We assist with positioning, painful latches, bottle refusal, pumping schedules, returning to work, low milk supply/oversupply, and can refer out as needed.  Most importantly, we are on YOUR team to make breastfeeding work for YOU.

Depending on the type of appointment it may be 15 minutes to 75 minutes.  During this time, we will dive into your health history, address your feeding concerns, provide education, and support your feeding goals.  Typically, we will assess a feeding either at the breast or with a bottle depending on your feeding goals.  We also may assess a pumping session so please have your pump clean and set up near you.  We will send you a care plan after your visit to help provide you with guidelines until your next consultation.  After your appointments, feel free to email us for the next 2 weeks with any questions regarding your current care plans.  If you have any new concerns, please schedule a follow up consultation so we can dive into your new problems.

We highly recommend a prenatal appointment to get the ball rolling before your baby is born.  After delivery, we would love to meet your baby in an initial consultation to assist with any problems that may have come up during this postpartum time.  For some families with minor concerns, one may be all you need.  However, more complex cases need multiple follow ups to resolve.  We offer discounted follow up appointments so we can help you succeed no matter how long it takes!

We partner with The Lactation Network to be able to offer up to six visits for free. CLICK HERE to see if you’re covered! If TLN doesn’t work with your insurance, we will give you a superbill after your appointment that you can submit to your insurance.  Though most insurances should reimburse for breastfeeding support services under the Affordable Care Act, we cannot guarantee that your insurance will reimburse.

We can see families virtually anywhere within the United States!  Our consults are on a HIPPA compliant platform.

If you are a bereaved mother, we send our healing thoughts and prayers to you.  It is important for us to support all mothers, whether their babies are with them or have gained their little angel wings.  It would be a honor to support you in stopping your milk production or assisting you with pumping to donate your milk.  Please Contact Us or email at info@milkandcookies.com for more information and to set up an appointment free of charge.

Try to schedule a visit for a time that your baby will be hungry but not ravenous, we love to do some chit chatting prior to the start of the feed.  Have all your supplies that you have been using near by (nipple shield, pump, nursing pillow, etc).  It is helpful to have some milk in a bottle to supplement with if needed (this can be your expressed milk, donor breast milk or formula).

If you cancel within the 24 hours before your scheduled appointment, you will be charged a $50 fee.  There is a “No Show” fee of $75 if you do not show up for a scheduled visit within 15 minutes of scheduled time.  In the event of illness or emergencies for either party or severe weather (for in home), every effort will be made to reschedule services at another time.  Please reach out to us ASAP if this is the situation.
